ARTEFACTS OF HERITAGE AS A FIELD OF CREATIVITY AND VISUALIZING MEMORY IN CHANGING CULTURE

Abstract

In modern science of culture, a turn towards the study of the thing’s world of people, artifacts of social everyday life, new visual strategies of commemoration and communicative practices in the dialogue between man and thing is clearly positioned. Particular attention is paid to the study of genetic origins, symbolic exchange and ways of representing heritage and other examples of material culture in a rapidly changing society. Things appear in culture not only as passive bodily constants, but also as active agents of current changes, active characters, drivers of communication, inspirers of creativity, generators of new experiences and troublemakers. Objects of material culture in their historical and cultural projections can sometimes tell us more than we know about them and through them about ourselves. The syndrome of anxiety about things in modern culture is intensifying under the influence of new digital technologies. A thing breaks its corporeal shell, comes out of it, is transformed and adheres to other forms of culture. In this process, things acquire multidirectional movement, their meanings, positions, statuses, and possibilities change. Virtualization of sociocultural content changes ideas about space and time, past and present, traditions and innovations, heritage and modernity. In such a situation, new centers of tension and uncertainty inevitably arise in culture. This article makes an attempt to clarify some aspects of the transformation of things in the context of object-based visualization of memory and creative practices of heritage representation.
